Why We formed the Huntington Angels
Dear Parents, Thank you for your interest in the Huntington Angels. I wanted to share a few thoughts with everyone as to why I formed the Huntington Angels. As a parent of two small children, I, as I’m sure you, are always concerned as to how my son and daughter are to be influenced in this crucial time in their development. Baseball has always been a big part of our life, and our children have always been involved with the local little leagues, as well as other church and social programs. I believe that it is important to surround a child with positive influences, both peers and adults. This is one of the key reasons for forming the Angels. Unlike other travel teams who subscribe to the theory of "win at all costs", and conduct high pressure tryouts to recruit people from all over Long Island, We hand picked our team to include, not only what we believe to very talented ball players, but great kids with good families. These are the kind of kids and families we all would want our children to associate with. Peer pressure is very high in these pre-teen years. It is heart warming to see such a great bunch of kids getting along so well together. Our Coaching staff will be teaching the game through positive re-enforcement. You will never see one of our coaches yelling at a player for "not making the play". It’s hard enough to hit a round ball with a round bat in front of your friends and family. A child does not need the added pressure of someone yelling at them. Our coaching staff is a combination of paid professionals, and volunteers. Our coaches are even tempered at all times, and never let the game get bigger than the responsibility of helping shape a Childs confidence. The coaches of 9U, - 16U teams will be working together to develop fun, informative practices designed to re-enforce the team work mentality we so strongly strive to obtain. With that said, we ask parents to refrain from becoming "Arm chair coaches" Suggestions are always welcome, but a parent should never put undo pressure on any of our coaching staff to do things different to their original game plan. Travel baseball is different than any baseball our kids have every experienced. Yea, the uniforms and fields are great, but the level of competition will be much higher than any of our local little leagues. Our team will be playing in a league that is levels above where they have ever played before. For this reason, the key word must be TEAM WORK. All of our children I’m sure were the stars of their little league teams. At this level of baseball, no player should be viewed as bigger than the team. All positions are extremely important. Just because your child is asked to play outfield, does not mean he’s not good enough to play infield. It may mean that we need a GREAT outfielder! Parents, please do not put undo pressure on the coaches to play your son at a specific position. The life lesson here is teamwork. When a child is asked to play a position, they should run out there with a smile on their face, proud to be wearing the Angel’s colors. Help us instill this in them. Lastly, please try to make as many of the scheduled practices and games. I know at times it may seem excessive, but if you look at other travel teams, our practice schedule may seem light! Practices are the only way we will grow together as a team. Keep in mind, our coaches and myself have put a great amount of time and money into hopefully making this a great experience for your child. From training with professional ball players, to renting of indoor facilities, we are giving it our all. Please take advantage of it!Looking forward to a successful summer and fall seasons!!! Regards, Jim OlivaPresident, Huntington Angels |
