Test
Dear Parents,Thank you for joining our Angels family this past year. I stress the word family, as our original intention when we first built this team, and now organization, three years ago was to have a good place for good kids and nice families to go during the summer. We intended to play more competitive baseball than we were accustomed to at the little league level, and at the same time learn a little more about the game, and help our kids grow as children into young adults. I still feel the latter is the most important lesson we can teach our children. Unfortunatly, our 13 year old team has not been as competitive as we all would have liked. This leads me to why I am writing this letter.
It has come to my attention that many of the parents of the players are unhappy with the level of coaching that we have on our team, and have voiced their disapproval quite loudly at the games. Let me remind you, our coaches are volunteers who have no children on our team, and no financial interest whatsoever. They are giving 5 days a week to OUR kids, and quite frankly, to hear the way the parents are vocalizing their displeasure with them is quite frankly, insulting and embarrassing. We are not a money making business, and, as always, I welcome suggestions as to how we can make our organization better/ I find it an affront when a parent calls me with a list of parents who DEMAND the removal of these volunteers, or they are not coming back in the fall. No child, whether the best or least talented is irreplaceable. I feel that some of our parents think their child may be above the rest of the team. True, some of them are quite talented, and might benefit from switching teams to a more regimented, winning team. At this time, I would ask that these families to seek out other opportunities in the fall, and we wish them luck. For something that is supposed to be a game, this group of parents have taken the fun out of what we were trying to accomplish, to help build a group of young boys who have fun together. It is at a point right now that our coaches can do no right. Let’s not forget, the biggest role models our kids have are us, the parents. When your child hears his parents complain in the car about the team, coaches and level of play, they will form their opinion and attitude based on what they hear from us. This also has affected the team directly, for some of our key players no longer respect the coaches, and or listen to them, creating a tense, adversarial atmosphere in the dugout. We requested to know who was coming back with us a week ago, and I have gotten few responses. We can only register our team once everyone has paid. We pay out at Baseball heaven by the person, and I have not registered our team, and will not until we have 13 committed players. With this in mind, again, I will respectfully ask any parent who is not happy with our team to accept their fall check back, and we wish you the best of luck in the future. This obviously goes for any player who has not paid for the fall to this point. I currently have very many good players who have been calling me to get on the roster, and we will be having a tryout next week. We will field a fall team, if it means turning over the whole team to do it. I’m apologizing to the coaching staff for what they have had to endured this summer, and look forward to re-building our team as to something I had originally intended to do 3 years ago.
Thank you,
Jim Oliva
P.S. – I know many of our parents are supportive and appreciative, and for this I thank you, and if you choose to come back in the fall, we welcome you with open arms
